About this tool
Application portals are unreasonable about photographs. They demand an exact pixel size and a file under some number of kilobytes, they reject anything that misses either, and they give you no way to check before uploading. People end up guessing in a photo editor they do not own.
This does both at once. Give it a width and height, or a maximum file size, or both, and it returns an image that satisfies what you were asked for.
When a size limit is set, quality is reduced first and the picture is only made smaller if that is not enough, because shrinking is the more destructive fix.
Nothing is stored. The image is processed while you wait and never written to our disk.
Questions
The form wants exactly 200x230 pixels and under 50 KB. Can it do both?
Yes. Put 200 and 230 in the size boxes and 50 in the KB box. Quality is lowered until it fits.
Fit inside or crop to exact size?
Fit keeps the whole picture and may leave the size slightly under what you asked. Crop gives the exact pixels and trims the edges. Forms that check dimensions strictly need crop.
Do you keep my photo?
No. It is processed in memory and never written to our disk.
Why did my PNG come back as a JPG?
PNG cannot be squeezed to a target file size the way JPG can. When you set a KB limit, the result is saved as JPG.
